What is my Application Status?

Once you have a completed, verified AACOMAS application, you will receive an email from WVSOM with a User ID and PIN number along with access to the MyWVSOM account. This will allow you to check your application status online at any time. Otherwise, you can log into your AACOMAS account to check the status of your primary application.

I did not get an ID and PIN number, or I may have lost this information?

Only students who are in a verified status through AACOMAS will be sent an ID and PIN number. At times the ID & PIN email get delivered to a SPAM/Junk folder or maybe deleted inadvertently. If you cannot locate the information, please contact the Admissions Office at 800-356-7836 ext. 6827. Note: If you previously applied to WVSOM, you will use the same ID and PIN issued to you when you originally applied.

Applicants can view their application status, monitor their checklist items, and access additional/required forms by logging into their MyWVSOM account.

I lost my User ID & PIN number, how do I recover this information?

What are the ID & PIN number used for?

Your User ID and PIN number allows access to your application status, retrieve various forms and view your checklist items online.

Have you received my AACOMAS application?

Once your primary application is in a "verified" status through AACOMAS, with official MCAT scores reported, you will receive an e-mail with a User ID and PIN number from our office. The email will provide you with a link to the secure applicant sign-in page as well as other important information. Please keep this email for future reference!

How can I view information concerning my application status?

Using the User ID & PIN you were provided, login into your MyWVSOM account to view the following areas:

  • Application Status - view your status and access required forms
  • Applicant Checklist - view items that have been received on your behalf

What is the status page used for?

The status page indicates your current application status and provides various application forms. Following an acceptance, the status page is updated continually with information for incoming students. Be sure to monitor this page throughout the entire application cycle.

What is the checklist used for?

The checklist allows applicants to monitor their application material. When accessing the checklist with your ID (User ID) and PIN number (Password), all items and forms required by the Admissions Office are listed along with the date each item was received.

Will I receive a supplemental application?

Applicants with a verified AACOMAS application are eligible to receive a supplement application. Please review our application process and requirements section for additional information..

Do I submit a fee with the supplemental application?

No – you do not need to submit an application fee up front. The supplemental fee is only required once you are offered an interview.

How should letters of recommendation be submitted to WVSOM?

Letters of recommendation are accepted through AACOMAS, Interfolio, and may be mailed directly to:

What is the requirement for letters of recommendation?

WVSOM requires the following two (2) letters of recommendation (additional recommendations are accepted):

  • Pre-med committee letter or a any science faculty member who instructed you
  • A recommendation letter from a physician (MD or DO) is required. A letter from an osteopathic physician is strongly recommended.

How can I locate a D.O. in my area?

Have you received my letters of recommendation?

Letters of recommendation, if sent by U.S. mail, will be posted to your online checklist. Any letters submitted via AACOMAS or Interfolio can be accessed and reviewed by our office but are not printed or posted to your online checklist until you are officially invited for an interview.

What is the Admissions Committee looking for in competitive applicants?

Each application is reviewed considering a variety of factors. Competitive applicants will have a science GPA of 3.5 and a total MCAT score of 500, with the biology section in the 125 range. The Admissions Committee will also look for osteopathic awareness, clinical experience, and consider your personal statement.

My decision status is "Decision Deferred" - What does that mean?

The "Decision Deferred" status indicates that additional information may be needed in order to reach a decision at the time of review. In some cases we may wish to wait for your fall grades or a subsequent MCAT score prior to making a decision.

Are files in a Hold status reviewed again?

The Admissions Committee will re-evaluate interviewed applicants placed on hold throughout the application cycle. Be sure to submit academic and any other updates directly to AACOMAS. This ensures that we will receive an updated profile for you. Any additional information you wish to be considered for your file may be submitted to admissions@osteo.wvsom.edu

Can I schedule an interview & when?

The decision to offer an interview will be determined by the Director of Admissions and the Assistant Director of Admission after review of your application. You will be notified by e-mail if you have been invited to interview with the date options and details.

I have completed my interview at WVSOM. When will I receive a decision?

Notification is generally within two to three weeks. You will receive an email with the Admissions Committee’s decision.

Once offered admission, what are the amounts for the two deposits and what are the deadlines for paying the deposits?

The non-refundable acceptance fee is applied to your first year's tuition and is paid in increments.

We follow the AACOMAS Application Traffic Guidelines regarding the due dates of the 1st & 2nd deposits. Please refer to your acceptance letter for exact deadlines.

Did you receive my deposit?

Deposits are processed by our Office of Business Affairs. You will receive an email notification indicating the payment was received. Your online checklist will also reflect receipt of the deposit.

Will WVSOM require a criminal background check?

Yes. Incoming students are required to have a criminal background check and will be contacted when it is time for them to give permission to have their criminal background check completed.

Do I need to submit transcripts to WVSOM?

Transcripts submitted to AACOMAS will be available to us but must be final and show all coursework and degree(s) conferred. Incoming students: For courses completed after April 10, please have your transcripts sent directly to the WVSOM Admissions Office. ​Transcripts are due by July 1st, prior to matriculation.

I was denied admission. Should I reapply and what can I do to improve my application?

Please contact the Admissions Office to speak with an Admissions Counselor concerning ways to strengthen your application.

I would like housing information. What is available?

The local community fully supports students at WVSOM by offering different types of housing (apartments, townhomes, houses, etc.). A housing directory is made available to accepted students who have submitted their first deposit.

What is the West Virginia Residency Policy?

Students are encouraged to review the West Virginia Residency Policy for detailed information regarding qualifying for West Virginia residency.

What is the transfer student policy?

Students interested in transferring to WVSOM need to review the WVSOM Transfer Policy. If students have questions about the policy, they may contact admissions.

Does WVSOM accept international students?

Students are required to have U.S. citizenship or have proof of permanent resident status (green card).
