Our rigorous program guides students to become dedicated, disciplined physicians
In the first two years of the comprehensive medical education program, learning takes many forms: in the lecture hall, in the laboratory, and through interaction with standardized patients and 24 high fidelity human simulators – including male and female adults, children, newborns and a robot that simulates delivery of a baby.
In a survey of current students, the emphasis on early clinical experience was their number one reason for attending WVSOM. Students learn a variety of clinical skills with real patients as early as their first year. These curricular activities integrate the basic sciences and their application to the patient.
Pre-Clinical Education
Osteopathic Principles and Practices (OPP)
During years three and four, students have the advantage of WVSOM's Statewide Campus. The system of seven main sites located throughout West Virginia with additional surrounding partner hospitals and clinics allows students to hone clinical skills in physician offices and hospital settings.
Pre-Doctoral Clinical Education
WVSOM Statewide Campus
The mission of the Clinical Evaluation Center (CEC) is to educate lifelong learners from multiple disciplines via innovative and state-of-the-art teaching and assessment modalities. The CEC is dedicated to serve, first and foremost, the students of the WVSOM community and offers expanded opportunities to promote collaboration and research amongst multiple health care teams.
