Erin Reese, a student in the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine’s (WVSOM) Class of 2025, has been elected to the school’s Board of Governors.
The WVSOM Board of Governors oversees the financial, business and educational policies under which the medical school operates. It consists of nine members appointed by the governor of West Virginia and three elected representatives, one each from the school’s faculty, staff and student body.
Her term as student representative became effective July 1.
Reese, originally from Lock Haven, Pa., received a Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience from Susquehanna University in 2020. While earning her degree, she competed on the university’s cross country and track and field teams.
Prior to joining the WVSOM Board of Governors, she served as historian for the Student Government Association and as a liaison on the Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents’ wellness committee, where she helped promote wellness on WVSOM’s campus through monthly health initiatives. She is also a member of Sigma Sigma Phi, a national osteopathic medicine fraternity that supports medical scholastic excellence.
Reese said she is eager to act as a voice for WVSOM’s student body during her Board of Governors term.
“I look forward to working with the knowledgeable and experienced members on the board to gain a broader understanding of WVSOM’s financial, business and educational policies and to grow as a leader,” Reese said. “I am excited to bring my passion for promoting health and wellness, while also acting as a voice for the student body by considering all student suggestions and perspectives, to create a safe, inclusive and healthy environment that will foster students’ endeavors to become the next generation of physicians.”
