The White Coat ceremony will be held in the WVSOM Conference Center in the Student Center Building. For directions to the live event please use our interactive map.

The ceremony will last approximately 2.5 hours. You will want to arrive on campus early so you won't miss the procession.

Seating

Overflow seating will be available at the Roland P. Sharp Alumni Center and the ceremony can be viewed via livestream.

There are reserved seating areas for the students, guests with disabilities and their family members, faculty, coaters, and guests of the president.

Parking

Parking is managed by WVSOM staff. You will be directed to park in specific lots as you arrive. Map and Directions

Handicapped Parking

Please indicate to the parking attendants if you need to park in the handicapped parking area and they will direct you to the reserved parking spaces. Please note that WVSOM does not provide wheelchairs but will have golf carts to assist guests.

Keynote Speaker — Miles Medina, D.O.

Miles Medina, D.O. portrait wearing white coat and tie.

Miles Medina, D.O., works for Team Health at Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge, Ga., where he is associate medical director of the emergency department and clinical director of the observation unit. Medina was born and raised in suburban Chicago and earned a bachelor’s degree in molecular and cellular biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He became a paramedic prior to enrolling at WVSOM, where he graduated with a D.O. degree in 2017. He completed an emergency medicine residency at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, Mich.

Medina was active with student leadership during his time at WVSOM, where he received the Student D.O. of the Year award and served as president of his class. In 2017, Medina received the Donald Newell Sr. Memorial Award for Outstanding Graduating Senior and the Outstanding Student Award for the South West Region of WVSOM’s Statewide Campus, and delivered the class address at the school’s Commencement Ceremony.

During his residency, Medina was awarded Care Satisfaction Recognition as well as Emergency Medicine Resident Association of Michigan awards for leadership and advocacy. In March 2024, he was recognized as Piedmont Henry Hospital’s Physician of the Year.

Medina considers his time at WVSOM some of the best years of his life. He relishes the memories he made on campus and the relationships he cultivated, as evidenced by the fact that he celebrated his wedding with more than 60 WVSOM alumni. He enjoys traveling with his wife, Erryn, and his son, Micah. He plans to take Micah with him on WVSOM’s medical service trips, which he has attended as both a student and an alumnus.

The Oath of Commitment

As I begin my studies at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, I commit myself to a life of learning, compassion and service, seeking always to contribute to the human and scientific accomplishments of medicine.

I will accept the responsibilities and privileges accorded a student physician with humility, fostering the trust and respect of my teachers, colleagues and patients.

I will address ethical and moral issues openly and honestly, no matter how difficult they may be. In all things, I will conduct myself with the utmost personal and professional integrity, knowing that I will be looked to for leadership in the community.

I understand that healing involves the body, mind and spirit, and I will continually strive to become a physician who integrates all aspects of a patient’s life into their care.
