White Coat / Convocation Ceremony for the Class of 2027

WVSOM Campus

The White Coat / Convocation ceremony will be held in the WVSOM Conference Center in the Student Center Building. For directions to the live event please use our interactive map.

The ceremony will last approximately 2.5 hours. You will want to arrive on campus early so you won't miss the procession.

Seating

Overflow seating will be available at the Roland P. Sharp Alumni Center and the ceremony can be viewed via livestream.

Reserved Seating Areas

There are reserved seating areas for the students, guests with disabilities and their family members, faculty, coaters, and guests of the president.

Parking

Parking is managed by WVSOM staff. You will be directed to park in specific lots as you arrive. Map and Directions

Handicapped Parking

Please indicate to the parking attendants if you need to park in the handicapped parking area and they will direct you to the reserved parking spaces. Please note that WVSOM does not provide wheelchairs but will have golf carts to assist guests.

Security

Campus Security is managed be the West Virginia State Police.

Keynote Speaker — L. Faith Payne, D.O.

L. Faith Payne, D.O., grew up in the rural town of Poca, W.Va. She attended college at Marshall University and medical school at WVSOM, receiving a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in 2007. She completed a urological surgery residency at Charleston Area Medical Center and has practiced in Beckley, W.Va., since 2012.

Payne is a WVSOM clinical assistant professor, and her professional appointments include membership in the West Virginia Osteopathic Medical Association’s (WVOMA) Board of Trustees and Raleigh General Hospital’s Board of Trustees. Payne has represented West Virginia as a delegate to WVOMA since 2017 and serves on the WVSOM Alumni Association Board.

She resides in Glade Springs, W.Va., and enjoys spending time with her family, golfing, hiking, skiing and other outdoor adventures.

The Oath of Commitment

As I begin my studies at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, I commit myself to a life of learning, compassion and service, seeking always to contribute to the human and scientific accomplishments of medicine.

I will accept the responsibilities and privileges accorded a student physician with humility, fostering the trust and respect of my teachers, colleagues and patients.

I will address ethical and moral issues openly and honestly, no matter how difficult they may be. In all things, I will conduct myself with the utmost personal and professional integrity, knowing that I will be looked to for leadership in the community.

I understand that healing involves the body, mind and spirit, and I will continually strive to become a physician who integrates all aspects of a patient’s life into their care.
