WVSOM Emergency Messaging System (WVSOM Alert) is a resource for faculty, staff and students to receive text message alerts from WVSOM about potential, developing, or existing emergencies.
The WVSOM Alert system allows the school to quickly communicate health and safety-related information through a combination of various communication methods.
In the event that information needs to be communicated to students and staff immediately, WVSOM will use several information delivery methods to make sure the pertinent information reaches you.
WVSOM Alert will be used solely for the purpose of alerting the WVSOM community in an emergency. These emergency notices will be delivered via phone calls, text messages to mobile devices, and e-mail.
All students, faculty and staff are automatically registered to receive alerts.
Please note that emergency notifications will be limited to those related to health and safety concerns for WVSOM students, faculty and staff; or disruption of school functions due to severe weather, crime, or other concerns. These notices are also limited to situations or events within the boundaries of the WVSOM main campus in Lewisburg.
If an emergency occurs, the emergency management operations team, in consultation with the senior administration will determine the need for a WVSOM Alert message.

WVSOM has contracted with Omnilert, LLC emergency notification system. Omnilert is a fully web-based emergency notification network that allows emergency management teams to generate time–sensitive communications to students, faculty, staff, campus security, first responders, and others. These notifications will be broadcast by text messaging, voice mail, and e-mail.
Omnilert, LLC is the provider of the WVSOM mass notification system.
You will receive WVSOM Alert messages using the following possible contact methods:
Downloading the Omnilert app is optional as it is not required to receive emergency notifications. During certain emergency situations the emergency management operations team may select to engage in two-way communications allowing you to respond to questions through the mobile app. The same communication exchange can be achieved by clicking a web link which will be included in an emergency alert e-mail during certain emergency situations. The Omnilert app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. Once the app is installed on your mobile device you will need your unique personal access code which was sent to you by email at the time your account was registered. If you do not have the email containing your code please contact the WVSOM Helpdesk.
At the present time, only current WVSOM students, faculty, staff and affiliates may participate in the WVSOM Alert Emergency Notification system. However, notification for third parties is something the WVSOM Emergency Management Policy Team is looking into for the future.
In an actual emergency, you will receive information regarding the situation with instructions on what to do. Here are a few sample messages you may receive:
The message sender will appear as follows:
From: WVSOM no-reply@omnilert.com
Emergency Alert messages originate through the Omnilert system which is outside the parameters of the WVSOM e-mail system and therefor will contain the blue banner that is customary on all external emails.
Though receipt confirmation is not required, it is preferable for you to do so if at all possible if you are asked to do so. This is especially important if two-way communication has been enabled and the e-mail message contains a web link or you are using the mobile app and have received a question. When you confirm that you have received the message or respond to a question, you will free up system resources to contact other members of the WVOSM community who may not have gotten the message yet. In an emergency this will save valuable time – and, possibly, lives.
Yes. WVSOM will test the WVSOM Alert System at least once per semester. The campus community will be notified in advance when a test of the system is scheduled to take place.
Upon receipt of an emergency alert email click the “Unsubscribe” link located at the bottom of the message. You will need to do this for each email address on file, so if you provided WVSOM with an alternate email address you will also need to unsubscribe from that address as well.
Upon receipt of an emergency alert text message reply to the message with; Unsubscribe, Stop or Quit. You will need to do this for each cell phone number you have provided to WVSOM.
If you have downloaded the mobile app and decide you no longer want to receive emergency alerts simply remove the app from your device.
Faculty and staff information will be deleted upon separation from WVSOM, unless an affiliate status is established by the President. Student information is deleted thirty days following that last day of enrollment.
