Exam Center

Exams are a fact of life in medical school. At the Exam Center, our goal is to provide testing that closely resembles conditions found during COMLEX tests through the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examinations (NBOME) using state-of-the-art software to deliver high quality exams.

What We Do

The Exam Center administers all on- and off-campus exams. On-campus exams are created from items submitted by our faculty, while off-campus exams (3rd year) are created by the NBOME as the COMAT (Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Achievement Test).

On-campus exams are all created using the ExamSoft system. Exam-takers (usually students) utilize the SofTest client pre-installed on student laptops. Exam content creators (usually faculty) use SofTeach via a web interface to submit and access exam items and question banks.

This includes:

  • setup accounts
  • build exams
  • post exams
  • oversee exam security
  • make corrections to exam scoring
  • distribute results to students

What We Don't Do

Unfortunately we  cannot:

  • write/submit/choose questions
  • analyze exam item results for correction
  • decide on corrections to be made
  • approve release of results

Exam Procedures

Medical school is a challenging environment requiring hard work and extensive preparation - especially for exams. Here are a few procedures to help you prepare for exams.

  1. Download the exam 2 to 3 nights before.
  2. On the date of the exam, sign in at the table upon entering the Tech Center. Sign ins will begin at 7:30am for an 8:00am exam. Remember to bring your AC adapter and Ethernet cable.
  3. At the appointed time, enter the exam password provided on the PowerPoint on the screen in the front of the classroom.
  4. Upon completion, close out the exam and upload. Remain seated and plugged into the network by Ethernet cable throughout this process.
  5. Once the green checkmark/confirmation screen is displayed, take it to the sign out sheet.
  6. Check for score release email and go to the exam review as scheduled.
