Covid-19 Admissions Procedures and Requirements

Please review the information below regarding changes to our admissions procedures and requirements for the upcoming cycle. Due to how fluid the COVID-19 situation is, check back regularly or contact our office, as these policies will be adjusted as needed.

  • Interviews will be offered virtually and in-person.
  • We will accept online coursework to fulfill prerequisites, including labs. We are unable to waive the 6-hour lab requirement.
  • Pass/Fail grades are acceptable, but only for Spring 2020 Coursework
  • A recommendation letter from a physician (MD or DO) is required. A letter from an osteopathic physician is recommended.

Prerequisite Requirements

Students need to complete the following prerequisite coursework.

Courses

  • English - 6 semester hours
  • Behavioral Sciences - 6 semester hours
  • Biology / Zoology - 6 semester hours
  • Chemistry -12 semester hours / must include 3 hours of Biochemistry
  • Physics - 6 semester hours
  • Labs - 6 semester hours / 2 hours must be in Biology and the other 4 can be any combination of Biology, Chemistry, or Physics Labs

A grade of "C" or better must be earned in all prerequisite coursework. Applicants must complete a total of 90 semester hours of credit from an accredited college or university.

The information listed below is to guide you regarding what we are looking for in a student academically. Meeting the screening criteria or average GPA or MCAT scores listed below does not guarantee that a student will be selected for an interview or granted admission to WVSOM.

Screening Criteria Science GPA: 3.2
Screening Criteria MCAT: 495
Average Science GPA: 3.53
Average MCAT: 504
